Navigating Literacy Together

Who is the brain adventurer?

My name is Marcy Wilson, a native of Corpus Christi currently living in Dallas. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology and minor in Spanish from the University of North Texas as well as a Master’s of Education in Early Childhood Literacy from Southern Methodist University.

Throughout my career as an educator, I have experience working as an SLP-Assistant, a dual language kindergarten teacher, and currently as a licensed dyslexia therapist. I have experience managing a caseload of students, diagnosing and managing each student’s individual progress, and providing one-on-one and group instruction.

Once I began working with students, I understood that grasping the concept of reading was unique for each child. For some, the path was very clear and they were able to navigate reading easily. For others, their path was full of obstacles that made their literacy journeys very long and difficult.

My goal is to make literacy an adventure for every learner. Let’s start this adventure together!

Here’s what they’re saying around town…

“We are so thankful to have stumbled across Marcy through a Facebook post. We hired her to work with our 3 year old son to help accelerate his learning of alphabet sounds and begin learning how to read. We have worked with Marcy twice a week for 9 months now and we are so proud of how far our son has come! He is now reading books to us with confidence and she has him writing more as well, which has been a struggle for us until she came along. Our son loves when Marcy visits and is truly engaged with her every step of the way. We love Marcy's approach -- she is so patient and kind yet she can also reel him in when he gets distracted or extra silly so he is more focused. Our son has learned so much from her and we are so proud!”

“We decided to find a reading tutor for our 7 year old son during the initial start of virtual school. We noticed that he was not engaged with the school Raz kids reading program, and I felt I was lacking the patience and skill needed to spark any excitement in reading anything. After just a couple of weeks of tutoring, we noticed an improvement not only in our son's actual reading ability, but his overall attitude towards reading. Marcy found ways to make reading and writing fun. Once the basic grammar lessons had been learned they started to work on projects to really engage creativity and show the boys just how fun researching and reading can be. My son looks forward to seeing Marcy every week, and doesn’t see his time with her as an effort or more school work. More importantly he has started picking up books in his spare time. Recently he told me he had been in his bedroom and reading. He read 50 pages of Dogman and it was really funny. The level of reading doesn’t matter to me. But reading by choice because he wanted to, is priceless!”

“Covid hit at such a critical time in my children’s elementary school learning; my oldest was learning reading comprehension skills and my youngest was learning to read while in a dual-language program. I could see they were struggling from the months of virtual learning, so we leaned on Marcy to help bring their confidence back. In just a couple of weeks, Marcy had my boys not only back on track, but excelling in their reading and phonics skills. Marcy has the true gift of teaching children!”
